Alvin Lucier interview

Here is the interview I did with Alvin Lucier in 2007 at Dartington. He was over for a short residency, with the students playing and installing some of his pieces. We managed to find a very quiet corner of the cafe to chat, before heading over to hear his I Remember, a wonderful piece for voices and resonant objects which I’ve performed a number of times since. I met him for the first time in Ostrava in 2001 for the initial New Music Days. It’s a really good course as it’s quite compact, with only a few participants, so we had a lot of contact with the featured composers. Bryn Harrison, Tim Parkinson and I managed to convince Alvin to join us for Bryn’s birthday meal, and we found a pretty good Chinese restaurant on a warm summer evening. One of those things that I’ll always remember.
