Over the past year I’ve been building some prototype eurorack modules. I’ve always been curious about how to do it, and on the off chance asked Claude how to start. A couple of months later I’d made The Bells, a CV generator that models bellringing methods to produces sequences of permutating pitches. It includes variable tempo, choice of scales and pitches, and gate out for each of the eight voices to cue a sampler. I made it using Claude Code – and a number of other AIs when my credits timed out – to design the hardware, firmware, and troubleshoot. It was a very absorbing process, although the levels of frustration were pretty high at times. It works pretty well, and after a few botched blank plate modification attempts I just made a wood panel to mount it. At some point I’ll try to get a circuit board and plate made properly, but it’s fine for the moment.
Following that relative success, I have started a canon module. This is proving to be a little trickier as it needs to take CV in, process it according to the canonic rules selected, and output multiple channels of CV accurately. The calibration and tuning is proving to be a little tricky, but I’m nearly there with it I think!
