somewhere a field

July 29, 2014 - composition / performing

Here’s the film of the realisation Paul Whitty and I made of my piece the range of outside factors influencing it, as well as its own radius of action a couple of weeks ago. The piece involves a source recording from a different location being played back, with players reinforcing sounds in both the recording and immediate environment. Each realisation is recorded and forms the recording for the next realisation. In this version, whihc we made sitting on the semi-dry bed of the River Exe near Fortescue Farm in Devon, you can hea the two previous recordings – a supermarket cafe and a Berlin bar – alongside the sounds of the river. You can just about hear our interventions interspersed amongst the other sounds.

This realisation also contributes to Paul’s somewhere a field project which involves an extended investigation of the soundscape of this area. You can read more about it at the project website.
